FLAKING BRICKS
The face of the bricks may shale or fall off. Most of the time it is due to water found within the masonry work and the combination of the freeze thaw (expansion) cycles of our weather. If left unattended, these bricks continue to deteriorate and entire bricks may eventually fall out of the masonry work. CROWN REPAIRS
A chimney crown is a masonry roof that covers the top of your chimney. It prevents water from seeping into the masonry below. Water damaged or cracked chimney crowns can lead to costly chimney repairs.
If the crown in not sufficiently deteriorated to require a complete rebuild, flex-crown can be applied to seal the concrete slab. A new crown is poured or installed when the original crown is no longer structurally sound. Our masons remove the deteriorated crown and pour a new crown with a proper overhang. The overhang protects the chimney from excessive water damage to the bricks and mortar below.

FLASHING REPAIRS
The flashing is the strip of metal that joins the base of the chimney to the roofline. The flashing prevents water from penetrating this joint and seeping into your house. A flashing seal is needed when sections of the flashing have lifted.

WATER REPELLENT
Water Repellant is applied to the chimney as a preventive measure to protect against water penetration. It is very important that your chimney is protected from the elements. Without adequate protection, water will eventually penetrate the chimney structure. The bricks will begin to spall (faces of the bricks pop off) or the mortar joints will deteriorate. Moisture is always present in bricks and concrete. Inferior sealers often form a water resistant surface which traps water vapors. These trapped vapors will contribute to future deterioration. Early Times uses a water repellant that is 100% vapor-permeable, eliminating water absorption.
FIREBOX REPAIRS
The firebox is the part of the fireplace where the wood is placed in order to make a fire. If your firebox has cracked bricks or deteriorating mortar joints, contact us to tuckpoint or rebuild your firebox with new firebricks and high temperature refractory mortar; thereby restoring the structural integrity of this important part of your fireplace system.
